Tribute

Hello, this is Thomas. Jean Michel is having a well-deserved day off, and he asked me to share a story with you. Fiona is Jean Michel's assistant, spokesperson, problem-solver and best friend. She has been working with him for over 20 years, and her dream during all those years was to have him perform in Ireland, her homeland. Most unfortunately, when this finally happened at the beginning of the tour, her father had just passed away, and she buried him in Galway the very same day Jean Michel was playing in Dublin. He improvised a little tribute, and the audience followed. Louis happened to be filming at that moment. Please share our sympathy to Fiona and her family.

Dear Fiona,

I'm very sorry to hear that your father passed away. So soon after you had a son. New Life and Death, they often seem to belong together and define us. My sincere condolences to you and your family on your loss.

Ireland shimmered in the spring sunshine today and glistened like a jewel in the passing rain. New life in leaves unfurled and birdsong sang above the leaping lambs and all new moving things.

And I have been thinking that the sounds we hear, the music, the trees, the storms, the cities, and our own heartbeats too, are like ripples on an ocean of time, moving in circles and spheres, from the still centre of our many worlds, forward without end and falling too to a single point of quiet and of rest.

You have contributed so much Fiona in helping the creation of a harmony in our world - harmony which has been a guide to so many of us who read these pages, music which has been a solace, an inspiration, a blessing and a gift - a magic touching many lives.

I know that you will miss your father's touching presence in your world and yet he is with you too, in new life creeping, in your heart beating.

I lit my phone that evening in Dublin during Oxygene 13. Tonight I will light a candle too.

With sympathy and condolence on your father's passing and with thanks to you for all you do.
